Over eight seasons and nearly 100 episodes, Garage Squad became one of the most popular unscripted series in the automotive category. Its mix of heart and horsepower built a passionate fan base of hundreds of thousands across social media and turned the show into a flagship title for the MotorTrend network. Each episode revolved around a car loaded with family history, so the emotional payoff of firing up a long-dormant engine resonated widely. By keeping the builds realistic and the stories real, Garage Squad evolved from a niche idea into MotorTrend’s signature feel-good automotive series, proving our ability to develop and deliver original entertainment that connects with fans and defines a genre.

In 2014 we set out to solve a problem every gearhead understands: unfinished project cars languishing in garages. Drawing on decades of advertising and production experience, we created a show that felt more like a rescue mission than a build-off. Our concept paired host Lauren Bohlander with NHRA champion Bruno Massel and master mechanic Joe Zolper, sending them straight into owners’ garages to help bring classic hot rods back to life.

Instead of filming in a glossy shop, the Squad unpacked tools in driveways, coached owners through the work, and told the human stories behind each vehicle. We designed the show to feel achievable, so viewers could imagine doing the same work at home instead of chasing a six-figure custom build. That authenticity became our differentiator.
